On April 19, the Baltschug-Kempinski Hotel hosted the Russian-Lebanese Business Forum organized by the Russian-Lebanese Business Council with support of the CCI of Russia. This forum was held in frame of the visit to Moscow of the Lebanese delegation headed by the Minister of Economy and Trade of Lebanon Raed Khoury.
Participants of the forum were: Vice-president CCI of Russia Vladimir Padalko; Co-Chairs of the Joint Intergovernmental Russian-Lebanese Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation Head of Rosstandart Alexei Abramov and Minister of Economy and Trade of Lebanon Raed Khoury; Metropolitan Filippopolsky, Vicar of the Patriarch of Antioch and the whole East Nifon Saikali; Chairman of Federation of Chambers of Commerce of Lebanon Mohamed Shukeri; Chairman of the Russian-Lebanese Business Council Alexander Gogolev; Chairman of the Lebanon-Russian Business Council Jacques Sarraf; Lebanese Industry Minister Hussein Hajj-Hassan; Minister of Tourism of Lebanon Avedis Gidanian; Representatives of Russian and Lebanese business community.
The Head of Rosstandart Alexei Abramov noted that the trade turnover between our countries in 2016 decreased by 15.7% compared to 2015 and amounted to USD 539.5 million. At present time all the necessary conditions for increasing the trade turnover between Russia and Lebanon based on the positive dynamics of economic indicators for 2017 had been created.
Minister of Economy and Trade of Lebanon Raed Khoury stressed that Russia and Lebanon are linked by long-standing friendly relations, characterized by deep mutual respect, the desire to preserve existing ties and establish new ones. According to the minister, it is necessary to develop a clear action plan for increasing trade turnover, improving the trade balance and stimulating the export of Lebanese products to the Russian Federation.
The Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Fedration Vladimir Padalko thanked the government of Lebanon for supporting Russian business. He said that one of the areas of joint work could be the restoration of post-war Syria. He supported plans to create free economic zones in Lebanon on the border with Syria for the economic development of this country. Especially Vladimir Padalko noted the existing experience of the Lebanese diaspora in the development of successful business in the Russian regions.
Chairman of Federation of Chambers of Commerce of Lebanon Mohamed Shukeri expressed solidarity with Russia and said that Lebanon does not support the policy of sanctions. He proposed expanding the spheres of business cooperation between our countries and supported the projects of joint restoration of Syria.
The chairman of the Russian-Lebanese Business Council, Alexander Gogolev, noted the high interest of business to the Russian-Lebanese business cooperation. He told about the events held within the framework of the work of the business council and stressed that Lebanon is the priority point of entry of Russian companies to the Middle East market.
Chairman of the Lebanon-Russian Business Council Jacques Sarraf, thanked the Russian side for the excellent organization of the forum, said that Russian-Lebanese trade relations are at a high level and noted that this meeting is especially significant on the eve of the visit of Lebanese President Michel Aun to Russia.
Lebanese Industry Minister Hussein Hajj-Hassan expressed solidarity with Russia in the fight against terrorism. He recalled that Lebanon is a country that provides shelter and jobs to more than 5 million Syrian refugees and called for lifting the customs barriers for Lebanese products to increase the level of Lebanese exports to Russia.
The presentation of the Minister of Tourism of Lebanon Avedis Gidanyan was devoted to the tourist attractiveness of his country.
At the end of the plenary session, final protocols were signed and round tables were held on topical issues.
