BRICS: boosting economic cooperation

Sergey Katyrin, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation was a moderator on the panel session “BRICS: boosting economic cooperation” in the framework of the program pillar “Dynamics of the global economy”. The session was dedicated to the development of economic cooperation between BRICS countries.  

Topics of discussion included the possibilities and prospects for initiating a new level of industrial and technological cooperation; the positive experiences in implementing joint projects and the support that the New Development Bank could provide for projects being implemented within the BRICS economies. Participants in the session shared their experience in promoting projects in BRICS countries in the infrastructure, energy, industry, IT, and telecommunications sectors, and also identified some of the key challenges faced by business today.

Xiao Sun, Deputy Director General of Cooperation Department of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade talked about key priorities for China’s BRICS presidency in 2017 and the future BRICS summit in Xiamen on coming September this year.

Other participants were: Kundapur Vaman Kamath, President of New Development Bank (NDB); Bulelani Magwanishe, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry of South Africa; Boris Dubrovsky, Governor of Chelyabinsk Region; Alexander Misharin, First Vice President of Russian Railways; Alexei Rakhmanov, President of United Shipbuilding Corporation; Anna Nesterova, Chairman of the Board of Directors of GlobalRus Trade; Yaroslav Lissovolik, Chief Economist, Member of the Management Board, Eurasian Development Bank (EDB); Peter Mihok, Chairman, World Chambers Federation;  Xu Sitao, Chief Economist, the Partner of Deloitte, China; and Azat Fazlyev, President of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Bashkortostan.
